Today we had a visit from Rich McCue who led us through a seminar on using technology practically in the classroom, mainly using Screencastify to screen record and record audio clips. It was very interesting and efficient to use for online learning/teaching, I could imagine it would have been in use during Covid. I will definatly be using this to further my online portfolio in the future.

Myself and some friends brainstormed some ideas of when we would use this program:

  • Interactive Storytelling: Take a video of oneself telling a narrative while the pages of the book are displayed on the screen. To improve understanding, they can also include quiz questions, annotations, and voiceover effects throughout the narrative.
  • Math Demonstrations: Using digital whiteboards or other visual aids, make educational videos that illustrate math concepts. For example, a teacher could use vivid illustrations and detailed explanations to show addition or subtraction.
  • Science Experiments: Document science experiments for review reasons or to show students the steps and explanations in case they missed the live demonstration.
  • Assignment Feedback: Record your voice as the teacher evaluates each student’s work on the screen, then use that tape to give each student tailored feedback on their assignments. If you use this method instead of textual comments, you can receive more focused and in-depth criticism.
