This week we looked into open educational resources for teachers and FIPPA. I think truly understanding FIPPA and what is okay online is so important for teachers in this age when everyone is online. A social media presence, something I and many teachers have, is always a difficult thing to navigate and keep private. It is not appropriate to be using personal social media pages to message students or post students on them, however, some teachers do have teaching Instagram or TikTok pages. If one does decide to take this route it is mandatory that students be given another option if they don’t use social media and the Instagram page is being used as a way for students to document learning. It is also very important for teachers to gather the informed consent of students and guardians for any collection of information. In this digital age it is also our responsibility to teach students how to protect themselves online and understand privacy on the internet.
Open Educational Resources (OER) are a treasure trove of freely accessible educational materials available online. These resources, openly licensed for reuse, provide teachers with a diverse array of materials—ranging from lesson plans and textbooks to interactive tools and multimedia content. By leveraging OER, educators can customize, adapt, and share these resources, fostering innovative and tailored learning experiences for students while promoting collaboration and access to high-quality education worldwide.
