Today we were lucky enough to have Jesse Miller as a guest speaker via Zoom. The talk pertained to the professional standard we are held to as teachers and how that looks in the world of social media. Within the new world of social media, there are many ‘grey areas’ and we all have a digital footprint that will follow us essentially forever. What I took away from Jesse’s presentation is that educators can harness social media to captivate students through innovative approaches, enhancing their courses, teaching methods, and project outcomes. However, this avenue also presents potential risks. Striking a delicate equilibrium between personal and professional conduct online remains an ongoing challenge. As aspiring educators, it’s vital to recognize that our digital presence is the legacy we create. It holds the potential to either support or hinder our educational pursuits as we navigate this evolving landscape.
